Why "Curious Keith"

The reason why I named the blog “Curious Keith” is not hard to figure out. I’m curious. Have been for as long as I can remember. Was the kind of kid who asked his parents a never-ending slew of “why” questions. I couldn’t help it.  Everything around me was just so darn perplexing, and there had to be a reason for everything.

For instance, I distinctly remember asking my mom if white people had bowel movements like black people did. (For those that don’t know, I’m a black American, with a Jamaican mom, Antiguan dad, and a sister.) In my young mind, it made sense that brown excrement came from brown people, but what came from white people? White excrement? I can’t remember my mom’s answer, but in one way or another, she let me know that everyone sh%ts, and everyone’s sh$t looked the same.

And so it went: I’ve been poking, prodding and questioning just about everything I come across. If you take a look at my bookshelf you’ll notice the tastes of an intellectual omnivore. Next to a book about Blackwater, the private security contractor, you’ll see a book about Greek mythology, next to a book on card tricks, next to full-color insect identification manual.

That being said, I’m most curious about people. That’s probably why I was a psychology major in college. I’m extremely fascinated about why people do the things they do and think the things they think. Naturally, most of it comes from a combination of nature and nuture, but it’s wonderful to see how each of us gravitates to different things, has a different sense of humor, and likes different foods. Learning about the world, and especially about people and cultures, is something that I’m glad I have a passion for, because I know it’s an unending quest that will fill my days, notebooks and computers screens till the day I die.

As far as what I’m going to be putting in the blog? Anything and everything. Some days I might do a little comic strip and illustrate my feelings or the particular points I want to make. Other days, I will post pics of things I’ve done, videos I’ve watched or links I like. I also intend to post some short fiction and share longer-form essays.

So that’s Curious Keith.

Welcome.
